Found like this in the middle of the wash, always a bummer. Habitat shot included.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm pretty sure I know the spot. I've been there a few times this year.
The area is so far out of tortoise range that I'd bet the one you found wandered away from captivity.
Anyhow, I'll keep my eyes open for torts next time I go there.
This was almost 3 miles south of I-8, as for a captive, I doubt it. We were pretty close to the border-(was trying to make it into Pinto Canyon) if you're interested, let me know, I can tell you the exact spot by email.

Do you think this was an escaped or released captive? Tortoises aren't supposed to range into Davies Valley, but there are a couple of small desert towns nearby.
