It was either that or a lesser siren. I saw the external gills.
You sure it was a dwarf siren? That's a rare find; I hope you got pictures. I saw a small amphiuma in their breeding area, you sure that isn't what you saw?
Yeah it took me a few minutes to locate mine. They're call are like the little grass frogs, deceiving in their true location. If the rain hadn't of started coming down as a torrential downpour I could have located more I'm sure but the one was all I had the chance to see. I'll be going back out shortly for more and better shots. I also saw a dwarf siren, but it disappeared before I could photo it.
Chorus estimate, though the real number was likely much higher. I tried for a while after seeing this one to locate another, but they were all calling form inside clumps of grass, I had a wife waiting, and I got distracted by an amphiuma.
50?!?!?!?! Was this the only one seen or did you manage to see more or 50 is the rough estimate of how many were in the chorus?
