I found around twenty newts this day. They are exceedingly common in the handful of areas I have been searching lately. This picture is of an eft, which is somewhat rare in N. Illinois. Out of the >100 newts found in the last month, I have only found about three efts. Terrestrial adults are very common, even in areas near permanent water.
