Notes
Initially, I identified this as a melanistic Western Red-backed Salamander, but several key features point toward Van Dyke's. The toes are noticeably webbed, and the salamander possesses prominent paratoid glands.

The head profile of the salamander in the image above is almost identical to this one, so that's why I'm sure this is a Van Dyke's and not a Red-backed.
