Notes
Four discovered under bark and stones along creek-bed. Later when investigating nearby forest beside Howland Hill (dirt) Road, five found. These were chiefly located beneath logs that appeared to provide the greatest moisture (large, well-shaded logs).Small specimen possessed tan dorsal stripe that extends entire length of tail. Larger specimens were dark brown to black, and largest specimen showed discolored, gray blotching on neck and back reminiscent of birthmark. Toes small and slightly webbed. Small individual examined possessed 18 costal grooves and 6 costal folds, and measured: SVL 44 mm (1¼ in.), TL 64 mm (2½ in.). Larger specimen with 17 costal grooves and 5 costal folds, measured: SVL 56 mm (2¼ in.), TL 112 mm (4½ in.). Salamanders were also seen at this location on March 30 2001; March 27-28, 2005; and February 18, 2009
