Notes
First newt: Black eyes and dorsal, underside vivid orange with dark band across vent. Measured: SVL 76 mm (3 in.), TL 178 mm (7 in.). Found at 170 ft. Second newt: Black eyes and dorsal, underside vivid orange with dark band across vent. Measured: SVL 70 mm (2¾ in.), TL 159 mm (6¼ in.). Found at 300 feet elevation. While in captivity this rough skinned newt survived overnight freezing temperature that accidentally froze solid, smooth skinned Ensatina eschscholtzii, Aneides flavipunctatus, and Batrachoseps attenuatus. Newts were also found at this location on February 16, 2009.
