Notes
Adult with parotoid glands located behind eyes. Above dark brown; below gray. Believed to be male with bulbous vent, and tail exceeding its body length. It measured SVL 95 mm (3¾ in.), TL 203 mm (8 in.). In morning this salamander was found in campground restroom. Night before finding this salamander the illuminated restroom was investigated for animals but only mosquitoes and banana slug were detected. Salamander likely entered later that night via an open, ground level, wall vent. Back of building borders steep, moist, fern and pine-covered slope. Assumed butting pose when handled, raising its tail, lowering its head, and secreting a sticky, white, irritating substance from its paratoid glands.
