The first, at nearly 5 1/2", would have been the largest Batrachoceps I'd ever found if not for the 6 1/4" monster I'd found half-an-hour earlier. The second was the tiniest salamander I've ever seen, period.

Both salamanders were flipped at the bottom of what looks like an ancient pool. It doesn't look like they can escape, but with the tiny baby found there and a very different adult found in January, I think it's reasonably likely that they've got a breeding population in a very small area. If they can avoid a disasterous flood incident, they'll probably be a new species in a few years. Ha!
