I am flagging this specie in my personal notes as to ID. I don't catch many lizards to examine the ventral side; however, I can't say that I have seen S.magister with orange on the throat. On the dorsal side I would lean more toward Matthew Gruen's suggestion of U.ornatus. Overall body profile lead me to say that too. Very interesting to find an individual that dark. It was a cold little dude.
the more i look at it though maybe Urosaurus ornatus
Urosaurus graciosus, id say . orange throat , strip of large scales on back. even though it doesnt have a long tail
It was in my hand and I still couldn't believe it was a magister. Let's hope he grows out of it.
That has got to be the ugliest DSL I've ever seen. For some reason the belly shot made me think Clark's. But the habitat does indeed suggest magister.
