The snake was found in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in a drainage with year-around water.
Along with another specimen also found by us that same day, this is the earliest recorded visual encounter for this species in LA County, and for the database as a whole is second - by one day - only to one other visual encounter, 2-14-2010 in Riverside County (Steve Bledsoe).
