Have you tried using a smartphone app? I use Voice Record Pro. Works pretty well, though the audio files tend to be lower in volume than I'd like. As long as you are close enough, it'll pick up calls well.
It is kind of a pain for me to record. I have to use the video function on my camera, then lift the audio off with a weird setup on my computer, and then I usually edit it with software to clean it a bit. Taking voucher pictures is easier I think, unless you can't find the animal. I have some gopher frog recording on here too because they were calling from deep water and couldn't see them.
You should record more often! I can't wait for the spring/summer frogs to start calling in a few months.
