Located in the mid Willamette Valley, this is the northernmost known population of surviving Crotalus west of the Cascade Range. No rattlesnakes have been seen at this particular den site since 1977, with only two hibernacula at the more inaccessible, far eastern end of the butte still having a few Crotalus.
