Notes
Found under a large piece of eucalyptus bark I had pulled off a dying tree the previous Fall and laid out on a sandy embankment. When I first lifted the bark I saw a Gilbert's skink shoot down a small hole. While sifting through the sand trying to uncover the skink, I unearthed this 16-18" long glossy snake! It was only inches away from where the skink had been lying.
This locale is well West of the I-15 freeway, within 8 miles from the coast. Part of this canyon burned in a wildfire in late May 2014.
