Notes
This hatchling snapping turtle was found in a steel drainage outtake cannister (completely enclosed). It was not known how the long the specimen has been confined to the completely enclosed fixture. I believe that the turtle did not find its way in there on its own, but instead was placed inside by some ignorant person. With no light, low water flow, and generally cooler temperatures in the outtake drain, the hatchling had a soft (slightly poorly calcified shell), and was not overly active. The turtle was immediately released into the surrounding pond though took some time to swim away when placed at water edge.
Photo #1 - hatchling freshly removed from the outtake cannister
Photo #2 - pond habitat, note houses in close proximity to the pond (as degradation of the pond has been occuring over past years)
