It had just begun to lightly rain. The locale is normally a hot spot for Sceloporus occidentalis but non were out. I could not measure temperature but I would guess low 50s. Since we had a good rain the day before, I was actually hoping to find some amphibians at the locale.
The specimen was underneath a piece of fiberglass. Initially she did not move and presented no defenses. After she warmed up a bit in my hands, she did the typical musking and opened her jaw, biting my thumb. Even when placed back down on ground next to her cover, she held on for quite some time before releasing her grasp and crawling back under cover.
