Actually, he wasn't moving fast. I had spotted him about 20 feet ahead and stopped walking. I then watched him come closer and closer in the grass. Because of the grass, my camera wouldn't focus (see the additional vouchers I have added). At the end, he was stopped right next to my boot on the trail. So as not to spook him I just tilted the camera down and took a shot, hoping I would capture the whole snake. But I didn't. :-) Unbelievably, when I dived down to grab him - I mean, he was literally sitting next to my boot - he still managed to get away, though I did briefly touch him. An amazing snake. It's the second time that I cannot believe what this snake is capable of.
