I found this snake under a concreate brick sleeping. It got away from me the 1st time but I went back later after I spotted another one under a log, I got a chance to take a quick shot of him as he returned back under his rock/hiding place. these were my favorite snakes as a kid growing up catching them I liked the way they flatting out their bodies when threated.And they was my favorite for the way they use to strike.One of my best snake stories as a boy is with my first interaction with a northern brown snake, I use to have a pet smooth green snake (wc) that I took everywhere with me even to school..lol so it was this kid in my class who wanted a snake. but at the time I was too scared of going out in the prairie in back of my house by my self to find a snake! I found the opheodrys vernalis crawling across my front yard at the time I called it a green garter snake and was not afraid of it when I spotted it and caught it. so that sunday after the boy had asked me to bring him a snake I was praying hoping I can catch a snake so I can take it to school and give it to the guy in my class the next day. And just as I was wishing It was these bad boys who lived in my neighborhood (the same guys who taught me what I know today as Herping) They knocked on the door and asked me did I want a snake for 75 cents. I said yea.....and then went to beg my mother for the money lol. she gives it to me and I got the snake which was this really mean northern brown snake. I put him in with my smooth green snake and every time I went up to the glass to look at the snakes he would strike. so then I think like omg he is going to kill my green snake.....so then I tried to take him out and I tell you I was scared to death of that thing I thought the guys down the street gave me a baby hotts....lol so any way as I was getting him out and trying to put him in this bug jar I had, I dropped him.........OMG! to my self right? so I just started calling for my mom screaming laughing and crying at the same time I was so scared of it. she cames right in and scoops it up and put it in a bug jar and then teases me. but now a day my mom fears snakes and I plays with them.
