You still need to list it as a western in this database until that name is dropped here. It is technically a Northern Painted now, but we do not use that name yet. Using the wrong name just makes you look less intelligent to any researcher who may recieve this data. :)
Curtis, you are right, that is a "Western" Painted Turtle. "Eastern" Painted Turtles are not found in Iowa. The taxonomy of Painted Turtles has changed and the western and eastern subspecies are no longer recognized.
I think that's a western, not an eastern painted turtle.
