One Blue Ridge Red Salamander was seen sitting atop the leaf litter in a roadside springhead. It turns out that the salamander was dead despite not having any signs of physical damage. Only the eye looked odd. This is the most mysterious thing that has happened to me in my seven years of herping. Pics are below. Any comments on the cause welcome.
